Natural Vitamins Vs Synthetic Vitamins

Right from our childhood we have been hearing of the relevance of vitamins and minerals for a healthy body. What are vitamins, how are they obtained best, are synthetic vitamins or vitamin supplements a good replacement for natural vitamins? These are the questions on everyone’s minds and need answers.

What are vitamins?
Vitamins are organic compounds that are needed for the body in small amounts to sustain life and keep us healthy. The body needs vitamins from external food source as the human body does not produce enough of them, or none, on its own. Natural vitamins are derived directly from plant material.

Are vitamins obtained from food, enough for the body?

Due to lack of nutritious and healthy diet, or the quality of food we take, may deprive you of the required nutrition. Even if you have a balanced diet, because of the fruits and vegetables being subjected to pesticides it depletes it of the nutrition.

What are synthetic vitamins?

Vitamin and mineral supplements are manufactured synthetically with chemicals and do not come straight from their natural sources. They are made to mimic the way natural vitamins act in our bodies. Certain studies show that synthetic vitamins cannot be matched with nutritional value from the vitamins present in natural foods. Synthetic vitamins are not as absorbable as natural vitamins. They further prove to be harmful instead, as our body is known to treat these artificial vitamins as toxins.

How are vitamins from natural foods useful to the body?

Vitamin deficiencies lead to a wide range of problems spanning from anorexia to obesity, organ malfunction, confusion, depression and fatigue. All fresh vegetables including greens, lentils, lean dairy products and a variety of fruits provide a range of vitamins that the body needs. Steam cooked and boiled foods retain vitamins unlike deep fried foods. The natural sunlight too provides vitamins like Vit D, necessary for bones. So, get exposed to morning and evening sunlight to get a shot of vit D.

So, prefer balanced, healthy diet including a variety of foods as against synthetic vitamin supplements.
